The Go Team! are a unique band. They combine pop, rock, hip hop and funk into their own unique style, but to me the best way to describe them is as creators of happy music.
The night actually began with a rather subdued crowd and to begin with I felt singer/mc Ninja's microphone was too low in the mix. This was soon rectified and her up beat infectiousness soon had the crowd rocking.
Cheery they might be, but they can also created a rip roaring sound that you would expect from a heavy metal band. With two drummers, and sometimes two guitarists they were responsible for a wall of sounds at times. They are also a very versatile band, at times playing songs with just a banjo and harmonica.
As well as creating good music the Go Team! also put on a good show. They are a lively bunch and are constantly interchanging their instruments. The also came with a screen and some very random movies, which provided a good backing to the music. My only complaint was that I didn't get to see Ninja perform a cart wheel, as I've seen her do in previous performances.
Actually make that two complaints, I also felt at times they relied on samples too much to recreate their sound. Maybe thats a bit churlish, as they're studio sound is complex and probably quite difficult to recreate.
With the number of musicians they bring, the team part of their name is appropriate and they are a talented bunch. This weekend they not only created happy music, they created a happy crowd. A storming gig!
